9.45 The Future of Motor Litigation
With various and continuing civil reforms on the near and far horizon, ongoing consolidation and commodatisation in both the legal and motor insurance markets, with Brexit and VNUK , with runaway technological innovations and the advent of artificial intelligence in the claims handling sphere and with the very nature of the object insured - the car or van or lorry - about to alter both the risk and liability profoundly, Niall will seek to explore the likely legal and motor insurance landscape in the coming few years, the commercial realities and resourcing issues that might arise and the changing role of both lawyers and claims handlers moving forwards.

- the strategic considerations for insurers, TPAs and handlers in dealing with motor claims

Biography - Niall Edwards
Niall is a Partner at global law firm Kennedys. He qualified in 1998 and has over 19 years' experience in all aspects of defendant motor litigation. He has played a key role in lobbying government on behalf of insurer clients on many aspects of civil reform and deals with a broad spectrum of complex and unusual motor claims, leading a large motor team within Kennedys. Niall's specialist knowledge is in advising on complex, catastrophic and fatality claims and downright strange motor claims together with all things relating to motor insurance coverage. He has extensive experience dealing with his team with high value credit hire and loss of rental revenue claims. Among many other clients and cases, he has acted for clients in both test and appeal cases.

Biography - Simon Baker
Simon has worked within the Commercial Insurance sector for over 35 years and for AXA for nearly 30 years across a number of Distribution and Underwriting roles.
Currently Head of Underwriting for AXA's Commercial Intermediary business in the U.K., Simon has also previously headed up AXA's Commercial Motor product area. As a result Simon has been part of the team that has led AXA's involvement in Communicative and Autonomous Vehicles and the projects with which we are assisting.

Biography - Richard Tyler
Richard is The Possibility Architect; coach, best selling author, International speaker and provocateur. Richard’s mission is simple: to disrupt and provoke the way that organisations think, as being good is no longer good enough. Companies have to step up, show up and differentiate themselves, pushing towards Extraordinary in order to be successful. For over 12 years, Richard and his BTFI team have been pioneers of Artful Leadership - blending psychology, the arts and leadership to jolt clients to become more creative leaders and drive their industries, inviting them to look at their challenges through a very different lens. His clients include, CISCO, JP Morgan, HSBC, Barclaycard, John Lewis Partnership. Co-op, and the NHS.
13.45 Fraud and Cyber Crime
Former police officer and qualified solicitor, Eddie Whittingham will provide a unique insight as to the threats posed to businesses by providing first-hand experience of the impact fraud and cyber-crime can have upon SMEs and, crucially, how such incidents can be prevented. Eddie will provide non-technical guidance as to the simple measures businesses can take to significantly reduce their risk in the face of an every growing threat, as well as how you can engage with your business customers to ensure they’re protected and insured against incidents. Recognising that over 90% of incidents involve human behaviour, you will gain a deeper understanding as to how to manage the threat that lies within your own organisation and that of your clients – your employees.
Biography - Eddie Whittingham
A former police officer and qualified solicitor, having previously worked at Addleshaw Goddard. Eddie now heads up the Business Fraud Prevention Partnership which helps organisations prevent fraud and cyber-crime, with online security awareness training for employees and by providing simulated phishing attacks to upskill employees to become an organisation’s strongest defence.

Ant is responsible for developing and driving forward strategy for the CII’s series of specialist faculties. Ant was previously group editor in chief of Incisive Media’s insurance division with responsibility for the editorial content of all the insurance division brands in print, online and in person (events) and identifying and developing brand extensions. Having started at Incisive Media as editor of Post in 1999, he became editor in chief in 2003 taking on responsibility for Post, Insurance Age, Professional Broking, Reinsurance, the Actuary, Cover and Employee Rewards & Benefits. Ant has been a business journalist for over 25 years, previously specialising in UK manufacturing in all its guises (from shipyards to nuclear plants) as news editor of The Engineer, the UK automotive industry as deputy editor of AutoTrade, as well as general news reporting.
