IIB Volunteer for Autism Wessex.
The Insurance Institute of Bournemouth recently undertook a project for Autism Wessex. Volunteers were sought to spend a day at Penny Farthing House in New Milton, a residential home for young adults with autism. The project took the form of doing weeding in the flower bed at the front of the property as well as in the sensory garden at the rear, rubble clearance and fence painting.
Although it was only a small team they managed to complete all of the gardening work and about half of the fence painting. The volunteers ended the day tired but feeling that they had made a real impact and that it would improve the property for the residents to enjoy.
Another volunteer day is being organised for Thursday 20th August when Autism Wessex are looking for assistance with interior decorating at their Lifeskills College in Christchurch. If a sufficient number of people volunteer then a second working party will go back to Penny Farthing House to do some more work in the garden there.
