We are delighted to invite our members to join us on a tour of the prestigious Lloyd’s of London building combined with a tour of historic insurance landmarks in EC3 - the heart of the UK’s insurance industry.

Tours will be followed by a networking event and a drink at the Sky Garden, located above another iconic London building, also known as the Walkie Talkie.

Date: Wednesday 23rd October 2024

Cost: The tour is free and open for members of the CII and PFS only, however, the Insurance Institute of Bournemouth (IIB) is requesting a minimum donation of £10.00 to the IIB’s chosen charity, Amelia’s Rainbow. Cost includes coach travel, 2 tours, lunch and networking event.

Itinerary:

07:45 Meet at Bournemouth Train Station

08:00 to 11:00 Coach journey to London

12:00 to 13:00 Lloyd’s of London Tour

13:00 to 14:00 Lunch at Lloyd’s

14:15 to 15:15 Tour of EC3 with the Insurance Museum

15:30 to 17:00 Networking event at Sky Garden, 1 drink per person included

17:00 to 20:00 Coach journey to Bournemouth

Lloyd’s of London Tour

The tour will include a talk on the history of Lloyd's, the operation and the structure of the market, how business is placed, globalisation and distribution regulation, and Lloyd's in the world insurance market.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this visit, delegates will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • A history of Lloyd’s
  • What is Lloyd’s?
  • What does Lloyd’s insure?
  • How business is transacted within Lloyd’s
  • The roles of brokers and underwriters at Lloyd’s
  • Lloyd's role in the UK and global insurance market

Insurance Landmarks Tour

The tour explores the beginnings of London trade and how insurance developed alongside it. It covers Medieval insurance, fire insurance, the coffee houses, the events and the people of EC3 area, in the place simply known around the world as “The City”. It finishes with some of the modern EC3 buildings. This tour will be run by the London Insurance Museum.

At the end of the tour, delegates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of insurance history

Places are very limited. They are allocated on first come first serve basis. Please email Shirley Cassar at shirley.cassar@ageas.co.uk to book your place, (have your membership number available) . A link will be sent to you at the time of booking to make the donation.

Important Information

Non-refundable payment of a minimum of £10.00 minimum is required when booking the event.

Any cancellations, please inform Shirley Cassar as soon as possible so another member can benefit (we will be having a waiting list in case of any cancellations).

Lloyd’s Tour

You will need to show original photo identification to collect your pass (a driving licence or passport). Reception cannot accept photos or paper copies of identification.

Backpacks or luggage are not permitted on a Lloyd's tour and items must be left within the dedicated Cloakroom located on Upper Basement. Valuable items may be retrieved and carried by the visitors.

Dress Code: Smart Casual. Jeans, sportswear, t-shirts and trainers are not permitted.

Insurance Landmarks Tour

This is a walking tour. Comfortable shoes such as walking shoes or trainers are recommended in addition to a pair of smart shoes for the Lloyd’s tour.

Amelia’s Rainbow supports children in Dorset and the surrounding area who are suffering from any terminal, life-limiting, serious and chronic illnesses. The aim to create an environment full of fun, laughter, achievement and memories.

CII Accredited

This demonstrates the quality of an event and that it meets CII member CPD scheme requirements.

3 1/2 hours' CPD can be claimed for this event if relevant to your learning and development needs.
