An Introduction to Fraud

This fascinating lunchtime seminar will provide a overview of the subject of fraud, including a technical definition of fraud, fraudulent and exaggerated claims as well as the effect of pre-placement fraud on the insurance contract. CMS McKenna will also cover Insurers' remedies, with examples of fraud situations and general indicators of possible insurance fraud to watch out for. There will also be an update on recent developments which impact this area including the Insurance Act 2015.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the session delegates should be able to:

  • understand the effect of fraud on insurance cover;
  • discuss what remedies insurers have;
  • understand how the Insurance Act 2015 affects this area;
  • understand the position in respect of exaggerated claims; and
  • learn from examples in case law and CMS experience of indicators of possible insurance fraud
