Careers after babies month

Workshop 1: The business case supporting working parents

We're kicking off the first of three sessions focused on careers after babies, with The business case supporting working parents. In this session three topics will be covered:

Lived Experience

Objective 1: Attendees will understand the typical experience of a women going on, and returning from, maternity leave and the issues she faces We’ll share a typical experience of a working parent, focused around “Lucy”. Her story will convey what happens to most women when they go on maternity leave and try and return to work. Using interactive elements we’ll invite attendees to share their own experiences

The Stats

Objective 2: Attendees will be able to articulate the business case for better supporting working parents of both sexes and understand the latest trends driving the need for change Using our extensive datasets we’ll present the Careers After Babies data along with other critical data sources to demonstrate what’s currently happening for working parents . Jess will talk to staggering statistics and evidence that demonstrates what’s driving the gender pay gap and also how the world is changing for men too.

The Context

Objective 3: Attendees will understand how the business case applies in an insurance setting and how their own organisation needs to think about their own approach to retaining working parents We’ll talk about insurance and why this is so relevant to the industry. Jess will share her own story of her career in insurance and what happened. We’ll then introducing the Careers After Babies framework introducing the three pillars of policy, process and practice highlighting where many organisations start and why that isn’t necessarily the best place to start. We’ll end by teasing the next session covering what employers can do in response.
