Vulnerable Customers
Alan Chandler, Chartered Insurer, will look at how firms have been treating customers unfairly including some disturbing case studies. The presentation will include how the FCA defines vulnerable customers, the measures all firms are expected to put in place and how the requirements on all firms have changed to make sure the most vulnerable are protected going forward.

Wine Tasting Grapevine Talk - Characteristics of a Good Communicator
The characteristics of a good wine can teach us a lot about the characteristics of a good communicator. Each wine is unique in its character and so too is each person. However, there are common ingredients and methods that go in to producing the finished article, whether it be a good wine or a good communicator. Through tasting five different Spanish and Portuguese wines, each with a unique character, this session will relate these characteristics to the five essential characteristics of a good communicator, from preparation through to execution of a message. Utility extensions - a repeat of the pandemic expectation issues
The FCA Test case showcased the range of different perceptions about the scope of disease cover. There are residual issues that are likely to litigate but we broadly know where we stand on the core issues. But misunderstandings about business extensions are not limited to disease covers – in particular, utility failure cover is provided generally on two fundamentally different bases (with a hybrid variant for good measure), threatens aggregation over a wide area if there were to be an extensive power outage, and would inevitably reveal misunderstandings about the extent to which the loss of internet sales might or might not be covered. In the light of the above, this session will explore aspects of a power outage scenario and highlight the potential for further disputes mirroring that over covid-19.

FCA New Rules for Pricing Practices
The FCA has released its Policy Statement and final rules on general insurance pricing practices. The FCA has largely implemented the policy as set out in its earlier Consultation Paper but has made some concessions around reporting and timings having received over 100 responses to the Consultation.

Vacant Properties
In a vacant property any damage is likely to be exacerbated by the length of time it takes for the damage to be noticed and repaired. Covid-19 and the introduction of national lockdowns meant that 2020 saw a dramatic increase in the number of buildings being left vacant for an extended period, with little or no warning and time to prepare and has meant that de-commissioning of the building and services were not undertaken.
