FSCS - What do I need to know?
The FSCS's mission is to provide a compensation service for customers, which raises public confidence in the financial services industry. This is the UK's statutory fund of last resort for customers of authorised financial services firms. It is reported that the FSCS has paid a total of ~£473million in compensation during 2018/19 alone. This is compared to ~£405million paid in compensation in the previous year.
Learning objectives
- Why are so many complaints going to the FSCS?
- The regulatory framework;
- The redress limits and eligible complainants;
- Likely cases the FSCS are considering?; and
- What's next?
The seminar will be presented by Clare O'Sullivan from Clarke Willmott LLP. Clare is an associate solicitor in the Financial Services team specialising in financial services disputes. Before joining private practice, she was an associate at the FSA's (as it was then) enforcement team.
