Online Event : Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
The Insurance Institute of Cardiff invite you to a webinar on Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
Event Details:
Wednesday 27th November 2024 – 12:00 – 13:00
The webinar will be run via Zoom, a global web-conferencing solution. Zoom is easy to use, a link and joining instructions will be sent to you at the time of booking.
About the session:
According to a 2023 survey from the Trades Union Congress, over one in two women in the UK have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace. Increasing to nearly two in three women aged 18-24. That is not to say only women are victims of sexual harassment. It is something that affects all of us. It can happen to anyone and be perpetrated by anyone.
In this one-hour webinar we will first explore what sexual harassment is and the variety of forms it can take. We will then delve into the applicable law, including the new Worker Protection Act 2023 that comes into effect 26th October 2024, creating a statutory “preventative duty” for employers to put in place “reasonable steps” to prevent sexual harassment, and the enhanced protections and support it creates for employees. Finally, we will look at sexual harassment within financial services, shining a spotlight on the “Sexism in the City” inquiry, and the role the Regulators have to play.
Note: due to the sensitive nature of this topic, at the end of the session we will be sharing a number of helplines and resources offering support and advice.
Learning Objectives:
- Define sexual harassment and provide examples of its various forms
- Know how to recognise inappropriate behaviour and the impact of interpretation vs intent
- Explain the key provisions of applicable law – Equality Act 2010 and the new Worker Protection Act 2023
- Understand your rights as an employee and the responsibilities of your employer
About the speaker:
The Course will be run by Kerris Earle of Zing 365.
I am a compliance professional with 9 years’ experience in highly regulated environments in a variety of roles. With 5 years’ experience in compliance and governance positions across insurance and fundraising. I chose compliance as my specialism as I enjoy topics that require critical thinking, ethical consideration, interpretation of regulation/legislation, and that offer challenge in an environment subject to change.
My knowledge and experience coupled with my passion and approach to compliance as a collaborative cross-organisational function, moving away from compliance as a “tick box exercise”, has helped shape and support organisations to succeed whilst still offering protection from financial and reputational damage.
Training, learning and development and offering guidance on complicated topics in simple understandable terms has always been my favourite part of my previous roles, and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge, experience, and expertise to allow others to develop and grow.
