Session 1: Legal Matters: 9:30 to 10:30
Power of Attorney practicalities -
Delegates will obtain a better understanding of:
- the responsibilities of attorneys, and the practicalities of dealing with the powers afforded by Enduring and Lasting Powers of Attorneys
- the rules for gifting under LPAs
- the importance of Business LPAs
Digital assets on death –
- what clients need to consider when undertaking estate planning.
10:30 Tea and Coffee break
Session 2: Trust Registration Matters: 10:50 to 11:35
- Delegates will understand the new reporting requirements under the HMRC Trust Registration Service introduced by the 5th Money Laundering Directive.
- The session will provide examples of which Trusts are included and which are exempt.
- It will also provide examples of the reporting procedures, where responsibilities lie and a potential solution to assist with your clients.
Session 3: Pension Death Benefits for minors 11:35 to 12:20
This session uses a real case study to highlight the importance of knowing your client’s family and when good advice isn’t necessarily best advice.
Delegates will understand the importance of:
- ensuring awareness of the practicalities of pension death benefits for minors
- really understanding a client’s (extended) family situation
- considering all the death benefit options
- ensuring that the current pension plan is fit for the intended purposes.

Ellen Eley, Chartered Legal Executive

Ellen, a Chartered Legal Executive, has over seven years’ experience of advising on private client matters. Her expertise saw her admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 2019.
Ellen is based in our Cambridge office. Her work includes preparing and advising clients on the most appropriate Will and related estate planning, preparing and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney and acting for both professional and lay trustees in the administration of a variety of trusts. Ellen also understands the issues faced by clients when administering estates. As a result, Ellen delivers clear and accessible advice on a wide variety of estate matters.
Ellen has recently completed the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Diploma in Trusts and Estates and is now a fully qualified Trusts and Estates Practitioner (TEP).
Lucy Orrow, Senior Tax Manager CTA TEP ATT(Fellow)
Lambert Chapman
Lucy is a Chartered Tax Adviser and a qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner. She has 25 years of experience with Big Four and Mid-Tier firms in both London and Essex, working in their personal and employment tax departments.
Lucy started work at Lambert Chapman in May 2017 and specialises in Personal Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, Trust accounts and taxes, International Tax for individuals and employees, alongside international payroll and benefit queries.
Lucy also provides support to the personal tax compliance team with the annual tax compliance and P11D processes. Reviewing complex cases for non-domicile and/or non-resident clients, or share disposals for Entrepreneurs’ Relief purposes.
