Gloucestershire Coroner's Office ....What We Do and How We Do It
IICG is pleased to bring to you a fascinating insight into the role of the Coroner and all the related responsibilities and services that fall under the remit of the Gloucestershire Coroner's Office.
We are honoured to have 2 high profile speakers.
Scott Riddell is the Centre Manager of Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court. A law graduate, Scott joined Gloucestershire County Council in 2003 and worked with the Youth Offender team and the Fire & Rescue service before joining the Coroner service full-time in 2011. He ensures the smooth running of the service from a Council perspective and is directly responsible for all issues regarding the premises, staffing and budget. He is also the Designated Individual for licencing body the Human Tissue Authority and ensures licencing standards are upheld in the mortuary.
Terry Onions is the Senior Coroner’s Officer for the Gloucestershire Coroner Service. Originally from Oswestry on the border of Shropshire with North Wales, Terry came to Gloucester in 1975 when he joined the Gloucestershire Constabulary. He retired in 2005 having achieved the rank of Detective Inspector. He was involved in the West case, swearing and then executing the search warrant at Cromwell Street, arresting Rose West on two occasions and interviewing her at length. At her trial at Winchester Crown Court Terry was questioned in the witness box for a couple of hours. He became a Coroner’s Officer in August 2006 and became the Senior Coroner’s Officer in March 2015.

- types of death that may lead to an inquest
- the inquest process
- how an inquest links into the insurance industry
