Overview

The Bank of England is responsible for keeping the UK’s economy on the right track. One of the ways it does this is through monetary policy.

The Bank of England operate monetary policy by moving the interest rate (formally known as Bank Rate) up and down. In certain circumstances, The Bank of England will supplement this with measures such as quantitative easing.

Decisions on monetary policy are made by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) eight times a year.

The MPC has nine individual members. Before they decide what action to take, they hold several meetings to look at how the economy is working.
Members are briefed on the latest data and analysis on the economy. This includes reports on business conditions around the UK from regional agents.

Malindi Myers the agent for the South West will present an overview of the economy and then lead discussion around current themes.

Attendees will get an up-to-date overview as to the state of the economy and an insight into the workings of the Monetary Policy Committee (which in turn controls the economy).
