Powers of Attorney are key documents giving individuals potentially wide powers in respect of another's affairs or care. Their use with elderly clients is becoming more common and it's essential that a professional presented with one knows what to look for before acting.

Join us as the team at Brodies cover key Power of Attorney concepts:

  • What, who, why, when, where and how
  • The powers and how to use them
  • Operating the powers
  • What (in)capacity is
  • What happens if it goes wrong
  • What happens if there is no power of attorney

We have colleagues across Scotland with offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and the Highlands who can speak with you about this.

Learning objectives

The seminar will give participants knowledge of:

  • What a power of attorney is and what actions it allows the attorney to carry out on someone's behalf
  • How a power of attorney helps advisors in their job and how to speak with clients about putting one in place; and
  • How to take instructions from a client's attorney.
