RSA’s Liz Dalton hosts 2016 Annual Dinner
Attended by more than 600 members, the dinner showcased the Institute’s achievements in building the profile of Glasgow’ s insurance market and widening its engagement with both new talent and established leaders within both chartered and non-chartered insurance firms throughout 2016.
To celebrate the successes of Glasgow’s next generation of insurance talent, two degree students at Glasgow Caledonian University, with which the IASG has strong ties, were recognised with Student of the Year awards at the event held at the Hilton, Glasgow. This year’s well-deserved winner of the IASG’s Young Professional of the Year Award went to Siobhan Mulvaney, a broker at Willis Towers Watson.
Liz said: “My focus as president has been to encourage chartered firms to do what they can to support the development of young talent through work placements, apprenticeships and high quality training programmes. The IASG has continued its strong tradition of providing training and networking opportunities in order to build on the strengths of Glasgow’s insurance market through education and by sharing knowledge and experiences.”
Liz added: “I’m proud of the Glasgow insurance market’s support for young people through training and employment opportunities. However, we need to ensure that we continue to attract talented individuals into underwriting, claims and broking as well as for the increasingly technologically-focused roles that insurance companies and brokers need in an increasingly competitive marketplace.”
Under Liz’s presidency, the IASG’s chosen charities have been the Insurance Charities and The Emma Cameron Foundation, founded by RSA colleague Alan Cameron, claims account manager in Glasgow who tragically lost his youngest daughter to cancer. A total of £10,000 was raised on the night.
