A better understanding of flood risk
The Young Professional Group of the Insurance and Actuarial Society of Glasgow are happy to announce that their next CPD event will focus on understanding flood risk.
What is it?
Flooding cannot be prevented but we can learn to understand the cause and manage the risk so that we are better prepared. This interactive 60 minute talk focuses on an industry hot topic, that will leave you better equipped to protect your customers against flood, whether that is from a broking, claims or underwriting perspective.
This event will be delivered by Nicholas West from Flood Consult International. Nicholas has over 25 years’ experience of working in the flood defence industry, offering clients from commercial, industrial, insurance and utility sectors a better understanding of their flood risk and how to defend against it.
What will we cover?
By the end of the session you will have a better understanding of the following:
• Flood Mechanisms – Understand the different types of flooding including how they occur, characteristics and advanced warnings.
• Flood Modelling – Understand the difference between widescale generic flood modelling and location specific detailed flood modelling including the advantages, disadvantages and limitations.
• Site Specific Risk Assessment – Understand how the survey and assessment process is undertaken and why a site survey is mandatory to fully quantify the risk.
• Flood Resistance and Resilience measures – Understand the difference between flood resistance and flood resilience measures and the different techniques to achieve protection against flooding.
Breakfast rolls and tea/coffee will be provided, so please try to arrive 15 minutes early for a bite to eat and networking.
