January Lunch
Our first lunch speaker in 2016 will be Jenny Giles MEng CEng MICE. As a Chartered Engineer, Jenny has worked on a variety of local coastal projects both with the States of Guernsey and Geomarine. Jenny is currently the only female civil engineer working for a contractor in Guernsey. She also represents the engineering community in the Channel Islands and is chairperson of the Channel Island group of professional engineers.
Jenny was responsible for overseeing the works at Les Hanois Lighthouse. Les Hanois Lighthouse is not only a local treasure but a strategically important aid to navigation in the English Chanel. Recent years have seen some significant coastal storm conditions which contributed to the degradation of the boat landing putting a question mark over its stability. Geomarine won the works to design and build a solution to stabilise the boat landing. Having recently completed these works, Jenny Giles will speak on the experience and risks of working at Les Hanois with details of the weather, logistical and tidal challenges face to carry out what would be relatively straightforward works onshore.
The talk will take place at Moore's Hotel Wednesday 13 January at 12.30pm, (£10 for members of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey and £12 for non-members, including lunch) Do remember that the attendance fee is payable whether lunch is taken or not. Please feel free to encourage non-member colleagues to attend should this be an area of interest but, please note, members of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey will receive priority in the event of capacity being reached.
Attendance will provide 30 minutes of Structured CPD under the Chartered Insurance Institute's CPD scheme. Please book your place now, and in any event before 5pm Friday 8 January, by emailing Cilla Torode cilla.torode@cglloyds.co.uk . In booking your place(s) please provide your name, company, confirm if you are a member of the IIG or not, and advise should you require a vegetarian meal. Please note that vegetarian meals need to be pre ordered and cannot be ordered on the day. Should you cancel attendance after 8 January the attendance fee remains payable. If you cannot stay for lunch, it would be appreciated if you can advise us when reserving your place at the lecture.
Hope everyone has a very Happy Christmas and a very Merry New Year!
