September Lunch
I hope everyone had a good summer. Obviously I had a too relaxing summer as I am very late sending out details of the September lunch.
Our September speaker will be John Rowson, CEO of Kelvin Re Ltd. Prior to joining Kelvin Re, John worked for Royal Sun Alliance, Hiscox & Aon. At Aon, John worked in Guernsey, Gibraltar & Chicago serving a wide range of clients in various industries including energy, financial services, pharmaceuticals, aviation, retail, engineering and industrial processors. In January 2012, John returned to Guernsey to lead White Rock operations & the local ILS business.
John was a founding Director of Kelvin Re and became the Company's first employee in February 2015. With responsibility for all operational and underwriting aspects of the business, John has driven the Company towards achieving its business plan on schedule and setting up a strong foundation for the Board, Credit Suisse and Aon to work together and bring greater success in the future. John is a Chartered Insurer and ACII and has been proud to serve his institute in numerous roles including setting up the first CII regional institute in 20 years (at the time).
The topic for the lunch will be: Property catastrophe reinsurance, diversifying Guernsey's (re)insurance industry
Key learning points:
- Birth of a reinsurance industry
- Why reinsurance is good for Guernsey
- The challenges of running a property cat reinsurer
The talk will take place at Moore's Hotel Wednesday 7 September at 12.30pm. Following a change to the price charged by Moore's, we are now charging £11 for members of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey and £13 for non-members. Please note that we have not passed on prior recent price rises and the event remains heavily subsidised. Do remember that the attendance fee is payable whether lunch is taken or not. Please feel free to encourage non-member colleagues to attend should this be an area of interest but, please note, members of the Insurance Institute of Guernsey will receive priority in the event of capacity being reached.
Attendance will provide 30 minutes of Structured CPD under the Chartered Insurance Institute's CPD scheme. Please book your place now, and in any event before 5pm Friday 2 September, by emailing Lou Jackson loujackson5@gmail.com . In booking your place(s) please provide your name, company, confirm if you are a member of the IIG or not, and advise should you require a vegetarian meal. Please note that vegetarian meals need to be pre ordered and cannot be ordered on the day. Should you cancel attendance after 2 September the attendance fee remains payable. If you cannot stay for lunch, it would be appreciated if you can advise us when reserving your place at the lecture.
