Over the last couple of decades there has been a dramatic increase in the number of white goods in domestic properties, and we at Burgoynes have seen a corresponding increase of the number of fires involving these appliances.

In the presentation, we will look at trends we are seeing during our investigations and will detail the underlying faults behind some of the well-publicised manufacturer recalls.

Following a year of postdoctoral research, Ian worked for 2 years in the chemical industry as a Senior Research and Development Chemist in drug discovery and joined Burgoynes in 2009.

Ian has investigated fires and explosions within domestic, agricultural and commercial premises, as well as vehicles. Determining the causes of these incidents has involved considering electrical faults, self-heating mechanisms and causes associated with heating installations and human acts. During these investigations, Ian has analysed intruder alarm and CCTV data and carried out detailed laboratory examinations of fire damaged items.

Ian has provided expert opinion in civil court proceedings.
