Occupiers Liability Overview

Thursday, 26 November 2015
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm (UK time)

Speaker: Chris Gough - Mills & Reeve
Time: Refreshments at 12.00pm for 12.30pm start (1.30pm finish)

Mere ownership of land fails as the defining principle determining what duties are owed to people when they come on to it. The all-embracing and sometimes confusing test is one based on the question of “control”. During the course of a lunchtime lecture Chris Gough will distil the basic duties owed by those “controlling” property, the beneficiaries to whom the duty is owed, and the defences that might be available to occupier claims as well as looking at some emerging risks in this area.

Who Should Attend?
Any who works with Occupier's Liability, particularly relevant to underwriters, claims handlers and brokers alike.

Speaker Biography
Chris Gough is a litigation specialist within the insurance disputes practise at Mills & Reeve, resolving complex and high value injury and property claims, usually acting for insurers or directly for corporate clients who have a direct financial interest in their claims experience.
Chris also protects businesses and individuals facing investigation by the police or HSE, helping them avoid or minimise any regulatory sanction. He is an active member of the CII and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, providing training and other support, particularly to the North West local insurance institutes.
