Why You Should Attend

To learn about the potential dangers of flooding of commercial buildings and contents including machinery / plant items and how to undertake decontamination / restoration works where economic. The lecture will cover the resources available to insurers and discuss the potential difficulties in undertaking this work as well as reviewing the methods of decontamination / restoration.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, you will be able to understand:

  • The potential damage caused by floods;

  • Recognise the methods of decontamination which are available;

  • The type of work that can be undertaken to decontaminate / restore property;

    The difficulties that can be encountered in restoring property / plant.

Speaker Biography

After gaining a BSc, MSc & PhD in Metallurgy at Manchester University, Greg joined Rolls Royce Nuclear Division as a process engineer. Following roles at companies as a Research & Development scientist, Greg moved into the world of damage management, specialising in the decontamination of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment. Greg has worked on commercial projects across the UK as well as Hong Kong, the Middle East, the Philippines and the Caribbean. More recently there have been overseas assignments which have taken Greg to Italy and as far away as Colombia and Paraguay.

From 1995 - 2007 Greg was the Managing Director of BELFOR taking turnover from £3m to £17.5m. After recognising a gap in the insurance claims process, Greg created Davis French and Associates to utilise the skills obtained from more than 20 years involvement in the damage management industry.

Greg played a key role in the development of the British Damage Management Association (BDMA) holding the position of Chairman until 2002. These days Greg has an excellent reputation throughout the insurance industry due to his extensive technical knowledge and innovative approach to major losses and was recently re-appointed by the BDMA to chair the newly established Commercial Operations Special Interest Group.
