Speaker Biographies

John Partington - worked in the aerospace industry before embarking on a career in property loss prevention / risk management in 1995. Based in the North West of England and having joined QBE in 2010 John is now a Senior Risk Manager within the Property Risk Solutions team.

John’s current role involves working closely with clients, brokers and underwriters to identify and quantify business and operational risks and developing cost effective solutions. This is achieved both at site level via site surveys, or at account level via liaison with clients’ senior management team to review and develop group level management system protocols and risk management standards.

His role has gained him experience working with global and UK based clients across a wide range of industry sectors including: automotive, aerospace, general metalworking, woodworking, food, retail, logistics, textile, mineral processing, electrical / electronic manufacturing etc. Other activities undertaken include the development of Technical Guides and survey reporting guidelines. With a particular interest in fire protection systems, John represents QBE on the RISCAuthority Active Working Group.

Mike Barraclough – Has over 35 years experience in the Claims and Risk Management field in Insurance. Mike was a Senior Claims Inspector with Iron Trades which QBE purchased in 2000 and he transitioned from Claims to the Casualty Risk Management team after completing the Nebosh National Diploma in 2005. Mike’s specialties are transportation (Rail and Ports/Docks), heavy engineering, foundry and cast metal industries, steel fabrication and general manufacturing.

Mike’s current role involves working closely with clients, brokers and underwriters to identify and quantify business and operational risks and developing cost effective solutions. This is achieved both at site level via site surveys, or at account level via liaison with clients’ senior management team to review and develop group level management system protocols and risk management standards. He is a frequent presenter for QBE at the annual Iosh Rail Conference, RSSB, Airmic and H&S Expo and is the author of dozens of QBE’s globally published risk management standards and technical articles on Managing Contractors, Major Accident Toolkit, Control of Hand Arm Vibration and many others.

Mike holds the level 6 Nebosh Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health, Membership of IIRSM, IRM and Fire Protection Association.
