12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (UK time)
    • Alan Shaw, Lead Underwriter, Environmental Liability, RSA

What has driven the number of insurers in the market to double?

Who Should Take Part?

Anyone dealing with a client who has a business that could impact the environment arising from a pollution event – as thiswould apply to all businesses, everyone is welcome!

Overview:

Increasing environmental regulation means that businesses need to be more mindful than ever of the financial, legal and reputational consequences of dealing with a pollution event, as well as their social and ethical responsibilities.

Whilst the ‘Polluter Pays’ principle exists, environmental liabilities often fall to current property owners, who find themselves being held responsible for pollution or environmental damage for which they had no knowledge of and for which they had little or no control over.

Experience has shown that even operations that consider themselves as ‘low risk’ can give rise to complex environmental issues and costly clean-up, which may not be covered under a Public Liability insurance policy.

This lecture will provide an insight to the wide range of pollution exposures that businesses face, the coverage gaps clients are exposed to under a standard public liability policy and examples of pollution incidents seen by insurers.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this event, the delegate will understand:

  • Pollution exposures and how they could impact a business
  • Distinguish between sudden and accidental pollution and gradual pollution
  • Coverage gaps in standard liability policies
  • Types of environmental insurance products available in the UK
  • How to confidentially engage on pollution risks with your client
