Find out all about the growing issue of cyber crime (and its implications for the insurance industry) from the perspective of the law enforcement agencies in this one hour lecture presented by DCI Steve Thomas of West Yorkshire Police.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session, you will be able to discuss:
- the nature and size of cyber crime and its continuing growth
- when the Cyber Crime Unit at West Yorkshire Police was established, its size and remit
- the type of work the Cyber Crime Unit undertakes with examples of the work that has been done
- the insurance community can work with West Yorkshire Police to minimise cyber risk and what insurers/policyholders should do when losses occur
Speaker's biography
DCI Steve Thomas has been a police officer for over 21 years investigating serious and complex crime, road death and murder. He is currently a Senior Investigating Officer at West Yorkshire Police, as well as the Cyber Crime Lead for the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Crime Unit and lead on PROTECT. Steve has an MA in Criminology from the University of Leeds.
