Summer Book Club Meet-up - In Person! Books set during/about Summer

Parkside Tavern
Thursday, 04 August 2022
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm (UK time)

For the last two years the Insurance Institute of Leeds Book Club has been meeting virtually. Although we're keeping most of the meetings virtual we thought it was about time we had a meetup in person so come and join us to talk all things books.

Our theme for the month is 'books set during/about Summer' so I'm sure this will be an easy one for everyone to join in with.

We'd love to see some new faces and we're a friendly crowd so if you love books or want to get back into reading again please come and join us.

We love to welcome new members so don't be scared to come along if you haven't given it a go before. As we have a Book Theme rather than a specific book each month you've got a lot of flexibility to pick something that you'll enjoy and then you can come along and share your thoughts. It's a great way to socialise and make friends whether you're a stalwart bookworm or someone who's just looking to get a bit more into reading.

What happens at the book club:

A small group meet on a regular basis, we review a book of your own choice matching the chosen theme. Each person takes it in turn to review their book, good points and bad points, what we enjoyed and writing styles. We then choose the next theme and meeting date. It is a great opportunity to brush up your presentation skills, boost your confidence and network with new or existing contacts.

You can get your books from all sorts of sources including:

  • Supporting your local bookshop
  • Charity Shops
  • Libraries (many libraries provide online borrowing now as well - Here is a link to a borrowing website linked to Leeds Libraries.
  • Kindle/Kobo Books
    • Audio Subscriptions such as Audible
    • Free books online from places such as Project Gutenberg -Click here

If anyone wants a quick chat about how things will run or any thoughts on the future for the book club feel free to get in touch with current president Melanie Jordan via LinkedIn.

We ask for you to choose a book in this theme and inform us of your choice, via your booking: leedsinstitute@cii.co.uk

We're meeting at the Parkside Tavern.

Food/drinks aren't provided, but the Parkside Tavern does have 50% off their food on Thursday nights!
