Meet the Council - Brian Brookes

Starting his insurance life at Commercial Union 45 years ago, Brian is currently Risk Manager at Clear Group and is President of CII Leicester for the year ahead. Get to know more about Brian below...

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?

A: Taller (it didn’t really work out)

Q: Was a career in insurance a; Conscious choice or wonderful accident?

A: As with a lot of people I speak to it was by accident. The Commercial Union claims manager knocked on my door just as I was about to accept a banking job.

Q: How long have you been in insurance?

A: Exactly 45 years

Q: What attracted you to join CII Leicester?

A: At a certain point in ones career you want to give something back. I already mentor colleagues at CLEAR but I think there is more I can do to highlight the vast number of opportunities in Insurance for people considering which career path to take.

Q: What are the positives of joining CII Leicester?

A: Meeting people who have a variety of different roles in the Insurance industry including from the Financial side who I would normally not have the opportunity of meeting

Q: Random fun fact?

A: Appeared on TV a number of times. Opportunity Knocks (came second), Weakest Link, Dog Eat Dog and Greed with Gerry Springer

Q: Where is the coolest place you travelled?

A: Atlantis Hotel Bahamas (Michael Jackson was staying there at the same time but our paths did not cross)

Q: What is your favourite joke?

A: A man walks into a bar and says “Ouch”

Q: What is your favourite cocktail?

A: Newly discovered a “Jack Knife” which is one part Jack Daniels to one part Baileys

Q: What movie could you quote by heart?

A: “Life of Brian” – what else
