Mercure Leicester The The Grand Hotel
Wednesday, 06 November 2019
12:15 pm – 1:45 pm (UK time)
    • Rob Dakin, Head of Business Resilience, Axa Insurance

Kindly Sponsored by: Abaco Insurance Brokers

Insurers and brokers have for many years used different classifications for building construction which takes into account how combustible it may be. This session will run through the classifications using practical examples on a step by step basis. Guidance should allow brokers particularly to align with this classification system if they wish.

Learning Objectives:

• The brief history of where these classifications came from.

• The step by step process to validate the classification with practical examples.

• To see typical classifications on regularly seen buildings.

• Some of the nuances that brokers and underwriters may see.

• Understand some of the materials used in buildings that cause different classifications to occur.

Your presenter:

Rob has been in the insurance industry for nearly 30 years and within commercial risk management for the last 23 years and has taken a keen interest in the developments of new methods of construction and energy efficiency. Rob sits on many external committee’s including the RISC Authority passive which specifically looks at how building materials and workmanship can prevent the spread of fire. Rob also was involved in the ABI’s response as part of the Grenfell enquiries which also considered the flaws in current regulation. Rob is also Leicester based, having previously worked for the “Royal” originally/RSA, then Independent and AXA since 2001.
