Insurance Institute of Liverpool ( IIL) Annual General Meeting 18th April 2017: A fond farewell and a warm welcome:
The Insurance Institute of Liverpool’s Annual General Meeting was held on the 18th April at the Hard Day’s Night Hotel.
Mrs Lucy Higgins opened her last meeting as President of the IIL. The previous year’s minutes and the Financial Accounts were agreed. Mr Tom Harrison, Secretary, ably assisted by Tracy O’Connell, Regional Membership Administrator gave highlights of council members reports. Due to the sheer volume of activities during Lucy’s presidency this took some time!
Highlights included a number of dinners, the President’s dinner, The Summer Ball, The Retired Members Christmas Lunch, Financial Liverpool’s Christmas lunch, two CPD Master classes, a Careers Day for schools , a Charities Day for the Insurance Charity , the rebirth of the dormant Twitter Account, e flyers, an In Touch booklet, a directory of events, articles and photographs on the website, a Golf Day, revision classes , Insurance and Financial Liverpool lunchtime lectures and a total of £1923.50 raised for the Insurance charities. £2657 raised for Bowel Cancer UK from the dinner and £1500 Zoes place from Financial Liverpool.
Tom bid Lucy a fond farewell and presented her with flowers on behalf of the IIL.
Council members, however will not be able to rest on their laurels as the new President Mrs Tracey Fisher will be setting them a number of challenges. Tracey was voted in along with her Deputy Ms Carly Dunningham. They were both given a warm welcome by the council.
Tracey’s objectives for her period of time in office are to promote the CII, the world of insurance and personal financial services to young people across our Region. Tracey said that “they are our future” and that she was looking forward to hosting a Careers Event in July of this year inviting local schools and colleges to come along and learn about the insurance industry. Her second objective is to develop closer links with BIBA (British Insurance Brokers Association) and CISI (Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments) and is looking to share and co-host events as well as build relationships across our Liverpool associations.
Tracey is planning a number of social events including a speed networking on 23rd May, an annual golf day, a family day at Royden Park Miniature Railway on Saturday 15th July and a Christmas Carol Service. Her charity for 2017/2018 is the North West Air Ambulance and she gave a commitment to raising awareness of the valuable support and services available from The Insurance Charities.
She concluded by thanking IIL sponsors - RSA, Griffiths & Armour, Blankstone Sington Limited, Pavis Financial Management and QM Legal Costs for agreeing to support her throughout her presidency. She also thanked RSA her employer for their sponsorship, mentoring and in allowing the time to accept the role.

The President gave thanks to Tom Hopwood who retired from council this year
Tom and Lucy presented Tracy O’Connell with flowers and gave heartfelt thanks to her for all of the support she has given President and the Liverpool Institute.
The formalities complete, the council adjourned to the Hard Days night restaurant for a well deserved dinner.
