IIL 2018 Round Up
2018 Annual Dinner
The beginning of the year kicked off with the IIL Annual Dinner which was hosted by outgoing president Tracey Fisher MBE.
Speakers included Dave Howell of RSA, Grant Scott from the CII and Brian McNamara who served in the Metropolitan Police.
Two awards were presented on the night with John Clarke picking up the Young Achiever Award and Julie Calvert winning the Exceptional Service Award.
IIL Games
Our inaugural IIL Games programme was a huge success. Firms took part in a Pool Tournament, Sports Day Challenge, Breakout Rooms and a Christmas Jumper Quiz. Barnett Waddingham were crowned as champions, and fun was had by all.
Plans are underway for the IIL Games 2019 so please look out for details and get your firms involved.
CPD Events
We always try to keep our CPD events varied and interesting and this year was no exception. Delegates have heard from an ex-police officer about road safety, received an economic update from the Bank of England and learnt about Emotional Intelligence. And these are just a few of the topics we’ve covered. We have another fantastic CPD programme lined up for 2019 – please keep an eye on our website for details.
Financial Liverpool
And for you Financial Planning professionals out there, Financial Liverpool had another successful year. Offering regular, relevant CPD events for the Financial Services community in Liverpool. We’ve had some fantastic speakers this year and our calendar concludes with the Christmas lunch event, which is always a lovely festive afternoon.
Study Support
Our enthusiastic and committed council members have arranged several revision courses this year. We covered Financial Planning units R01, R03, AF1 and AF7. We aim to provide a similar number of revision courses next year, including a coursework skills session for all those working towards ACII. Details of our courses will be issued early in the New Year and we’ll also be launching our study buddies programme, getting like-minded individuals together to support each other through the professional qualifications.
In Touch
The News Desk Committee have been busy this year pulling together the In Touch magazines. As well as the usual content that supports career development, this year we have introduced more articles that we thought would be of interest to members. This year’s editions have seen some interesting articles including interviews with members, paranormal insurance, Grave Secrets and the Liverpool Blitz to name a few. We hope you have enjoyed the magazines as much as we have. We have had a lot of excellent feedback and we even heard that in one office when it landed on desks it caused that much distraction that some members got a telling off and told to get back to work – for this we offer our apologies and although the intention was not to distract members away from the day job we were pleased to receive this feedback!
We are already working on the next issue for 2019 and if you have any ideas or wish to contribute please get in touch.
Retired Members Lunch
The retired members lunch is always one that many look forward to and this year did not disappoint. It gives an opportunity for old friends to meet and for younger members to meet those who have spent a whole career working in the insurance and finance industry.
Careers
We held our annual careers day at Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza in July. Peter Forshaw, Head of the Careers Committee was really impressed with the enthusiasm of the students. Students took part in the Discover Risk game, heard talks from local members and then got involved in a bit of speed networking.
Annual Golf Day
In June 40 golfers turned out for the 2018 LII Golf Day at Vicars Cross Golf Club.
In third place was Martin Hawken of G&A, he was narrowly pipped to second place by Tim Hayes of Aon. The first prize went to Lee Talbot of AXA who took home the trophy.
Happy Christmas from the Insurance Institute of Liverpool
We hope you all have a great Christmas and get to spend some time with friends and family and do the things that you enjoy most.
If you can make our Annual Dinner in January we look forward to seeing you there.
We are also on the lookout for new council members. The council team is essential in making sure our members get the support they need and the most out of their membership. There are lots of benefits from joining council as it can help with your career development, networking and doing things outside of the day job. If you are interested in finding out more please get in touch.
Finally, thanks to our president Carly Dunningham for such a successful year.
