2015 Annual Golf Day
On what turned out to be another warm day 40 golfers turned out for the 2015 LII Golf Day on 5th June at Prenton Golf Club. There were a few ups and downs this year, mainly the reduction in the field being a bit of a disappointment but no so much as the Butterworth Spengler boys not rocking up in team colours this year. The ups included a more diverse field with the adjuster absences being made up by the influx of solicitors and the first female golfer in the field since I have been the custodian of the golf day.
The weather was good without cracking the flags, the course in great nick and the greens were in superb condition. It looked set to be a good day and the few dark clouds that seemed to be gathering proved to be nothing more than a passing worry.
Anyway after a few hours of toiling on the golf course the golfers made their way back up the 18th and into the bar. The scores were handed in and a few scoops were had before the food came out.
After some pie and chips and a few more pints we had the presentation. The first prizes were the spot prizes. These were kindly sponsored by The Ship & Mitre pub on Dale Street. For the spot prizes they provided cases of specialty beers. The first prize of longest drive went to Lee Pennington of MDIS and Nick Farrelly of Griffiths and Armour collected the closest to the pin prize.
Onto the big winners. In second place for the individual award was Steve Dobby, the landlord of The Ship and Mitre, Steve walked off with £50 of American Golf vouchers. A massive thanks must go to Griffiths and Armour for providing this prize. Taking the trophy home in first place was Dave Craggs of Weightmans. To go with the trophy Dave also picked up a Garmin SatNav that was very generously provided by American Golf who were guests of Aon on the day. A big thank you to American Golf for this gesture it was very much appreciated. Dave and Steve both scored 33 of a ¾ handicap which is a great effort but Dave pipped Steve to the prize on a count back. Our lady golfer, Sue Scott from Hill Dickinson came so close to winning with a great 32, no prize but she was the highest scoring lady golfer.
The team prize went to Aldium with a solid performance coming home with a 76. The Aldium team all received an Adidas golf shirt (each!) very kindly provided by Arthur J Gallaghers and so big thanks to them also.
Each entry fee included a £2 donation to the Insurance Charities and so the day raised a creditable £80.
I must also thank my employers Aon for allowing me the time to organise and attend the event and also to Questgates for giving me a place on their team and allowing me to take part in the day.
So a final thanks to you all for your continued support, to your employers for their generosity of time and money, to our sponsors Griffiths and Armour, Arthur J Gallagher, American Golf and The Ship & Mitre for their generous donations and also to everyone at Prenton GC who helped make this another successful day.
