Building Successful Teams
The session will discuss the importance of teams within organisations, and explore ways in which participants can use the language of Belbin to help them manage/work with others.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session participants will have a clear understanding of:
• The importance of teams in organisations
• What is a team?
• Why we need to find a common team language
• An overview of Belbin theory
• The nine Team Roles – their strengths and allowable weaknesses
• Teams and culture – looking at Team Role distribution
• Looking at potential conflict within a team, and how to resolve it
• Helping managers manage – getting the most out of people.
The session will contain a mixture of powerpoint, discussions and exercises. There will be some exercises that participants can duplicate in the workplace.
Pre-work
Prior to the session it would be advantageous for each participant to complete a Belbin Self-Perception Inventory and ask for feedback from others. They will receive a 12-page report on completion which identifies strengths, weaknesses and gives advice on how to use these in the workplace. A sample report can be found here: http://www.belbin.com/about/sample-reports/
The reports normally cost £35 + VAT. We can offer a reduced rate of £15 + VAT for attendees only. Please contact liverpoolinstitute@cii.co.uk for further details.
