Pensions D-Day: using 20/20 hindsight to prepare for a 2020 vision
Pensions D-Day: On the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings, James explores next year’s anticipated D-Day for pensions, where the ‘D’ stands for ‘Default Investment Pathways’; one of the ‘remedies’ proposed by the FCA - as part of their Retirement Outcomes Review – to help those consumers who go into drawdown on a non-advised basis.
James addresses the implications of this for Advisers, by looking back on how the profession dealt with ‘A-Day’ (2006), ‘B-Day’ (2011) and ‘C-Day’ (2015) and how the experience gained through those tumultuous changes can equip Advisers for the possible regulatory battles that may lay ahead.
The target audience will be financial planners, paraplanners, investment professionals, accountants and legal professionals.
The learning objectives will be to:
- Evaluate key changes in pensions legislation over the last thirteen years, and how they impacted on Advisers, Providers and Consumers; and
- Understand the possible implications for Advisers, Providers and Consumers of the introduction of Default Investment Pathways for defined contribution pension arrangements from July 2020.
The learning outcome will be for the audience to come away with a clear understanding of what next year may hold for pensions, and how past experience of previous key changes in pensions legislation can prepare Advisers for the challenges that may lay ahead.
