About this session.
Venture capital trusts (VCTs) were devised in 1995 to invest in small UK businesses. Since then they have become a widely used tax planning tool; yet they should be seen, first and foremost, as investments. This presentation details the important points that should be covered in researching and selecting VCTs, as well as highlighting market trends to be aware of.

• Outline the VCT rules and the implications of recent rule changes for investors;
• Identify the three main investment strategies used by VCTs, and their associated risks and benefits;
• Identify the essential points to be covered when researching and selecting VCTs;
• Compare the pros and cons of the VCT and EIS schemes.
