Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week for 2024 takes place on the 13th to the 19th May 2024. The aim of the week is to bring people together to focus on better mental health and wellbeing. Millions of people across the UK will be taking part, whether it be via fundraising or by just simply raising awareness.

This years theme is ‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’. Regular physical activity is proven to improve both mental and physical health, as well as our wellbeing. Exercise can reduce stress and anger, and help us feel better. If you make exercise part of your daily routine, it can go a long way to improving your mental health.

Thursday 16th May will be the national ‘Wear It Green Day’. The aim of which is to raise funds for vital research and community programmes regarding mental health. Why not wear some green and show your support on this day?

The Miindful Committee

The Miindful Committee of the Insurance Institute of Manchester was formed in 2020 with a focus on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing, just like the aim of Mental Health Awareness Week. The members of the committee are trained in Mental Health First Aid, and are there to provide support for the Institute’s members if needed. Webinars have previously been organised on a regular basis, with topics covered including Alzheimer’s, meditation, breath work and mental wealth.

As the committee welcomes a new leadership team (Chaired by Adrian Golifer and Deputy Jordan Hurst), the plan is to diversify the events that the committee offers to include more in person offerings such as interactive workshops and discussion panels. Now is the perfect time to get involved, so if you have a passion for promoting mental health, please do get in touch at the details below.
