CANCELLED Introducing the Ombudsman

Friends Meeting House
Wednesday, 20 April 2016
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (UK time)

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to cancel today's lunchtime lecture.
We are hoping to rearrange the lecture with an Ombudsman representative for later in the year. We will advertise this event as usual by email to members and on the website. We apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience caused by the cancelled lecture.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) provide customers with a free, independent service for resolving disputes with financial firms. This event will provide an overview of the service, touching on its role, jurisdiction and workload and looking in greater depth at how it works with both businesses and consumers to settle complaints and resolve disputes - so that both sides can move on.

Who should attend? Anyone working in insurance and financial services who needs to develop their understanding of the FOS.

Learning Objectives
By attending this event, delegates will be able to identify:
- The ‘theory’ of the ombudsman – its position and role
- How complaints are handled – process and possible outcomes
- How the ombudsman can help businesses resolve complaints themselves

Speaker Profile
Harriet Myles is an Outreach Officer for the FOS. Harriet joined the FOS as an adjudicator in 2009 after studying law at Exeter College, Oxford. After just over two years dealing with banking and credit complaints Harriet became an outreach officer, working mainly on the technical advice desk and gaining experience across several financial product areas. In September 2013, Harriet took on her current role, focussing on face-to-face training and building relationships with businesses that might not have much experience of the Ombudsman.
