The world is constantly changing and in order to enable that change the insurance industry needs to adapt with it. The challenges of COVID19 this year on our businesses and clients has brought about further consideration around systemic risk.

This presentation will contemplate systemic risk and beyond Terrorism and COVID19 what other risks might be out there currently or forthcoming. It will explore the challenges these types of risk place on traditional insurance models and the differing ways of responding and preparing for that risk.

Learning objectives
By the end of the session, attendees will:

  • Understand some of the implications of COVID19
  • Identify why systemic risks are different and how they challenge traditional insurance principles
  • Discover what other risks might be out there
  • Understand how can we respond and what mechanisms are available

Speaker biography
Stephen Coates ACII, Chief Underwriting Officer for Pool RE sits on the Executive and is responsible for all aspects of underwriting, modelling, pricing, claims and actuarial activities.

Stephen has been with Pool Re for eight years prior to which he was Head of UK Property & Casualty at Allianz, who he worked for for 11 years. Prior to that Stephen had 9 years at Independent, latterly as UK Property Underwriting manager and started his career at Eagle Star in 1983.

Stephen is also a former President of the London BI Association and an expert witness in insurance matters.
