Catering Fires

The presentation will cover the common causes and fire spread issues in commercial catering fires with a focus on the typical policy conditions relating to commercial kitchens and frying ranges.

Learning objectives

· Familiarity with the typical policy conditions and the impact that following or neglecting these can have. Examples will be used to illustrate some policy conditions.

· The roles of external contractors for servicing and cleaning of catering equipment and ductwork.

· Familiarity with the arrangement of catering equipment, extraction duct work and the risks associated with the equipment.

· The roles of forensic investigators following a fire in a commercial kitchen

The Speaker: Dr Iain Woodward Principal Associate: Hawkins - Leaders in forensic investigation

After completing his degree at Durham University in 2001 Iain joined a scientific consultancy affiliated to the school of pharmacy at Nottingham University. In 2003 he joined Hawkins Manchester office and in 2005 opened the Leeds office for Hawkins. He investigates the causes of fires and explosions.
