Golf Day (July)

On Friday 11th July the Insurance Institute of Newcastle upon Tyne Golfing Society held its Annual Invitation Day at Newcastle United Golf Club.

The course was in great condition, the rough was brutal, the sun shone and all 12 attendees had an excellent morning’s play in an 11 hole Greensomes Stableford Competition for the Society Tankards the result of which was:

3^rd: Messrs Vardy and Smallwood 20 points

2^nd: Messrs Mitchell and Lofthouse 20 poins

1^st: Messrs Tracey and Bones with 25 points

After a light lunch the members returned to the links to play a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford Competition for the Ken Brown Trophy. The scoring was very impressive the result being:

3^rd: Messrs Mitchell & Lofthouse 41 points

2^nd Messrs Hyde & Nield 42 points

1^st: Messrs Vardy and Smallwood 43 points (see photo)

The longest drive on the 10^th was won by Colin Vardy and nearest to the pin on the 15^th was won by Andrew Rutter.

Play was followed by essential re-hydration, mince and dumplings and stick toffee pudding.

Proceedings were concluded with thanks to the golf club for their hospitality, prize- giving and confirmation that the Autumn meeting will be on 12 September at the Wearside Golf Club (details to follow)
