Avoiding Bias as a Manager
Many of us believe we are acting with fairness and integrity in our role as a manager and generally we will have the best intentions to ensure that this is achieved. Yet we know that unconscious bias can creep into many decisions a manager has to make including recruitment, performance management, access to training and allocation of work.
This is an ideal opportunity to reflect on your own management practices and consider if you are aware of how to avoid bias in your own job role.
By the end of the session delegates will:
- Understand the benefits of acting with fairness and integrity as a manager
- Recognise where bias may creep into management practice
- Understand why bias can have a negative effect in the work-team
- Identify which areas of a manager’s work are particularly prone to bias and whether AI has a part to play
- Discover how to mitigate our own bias to create a more productive working environment
