AF7 (Pension Transfers) Pre Exam Training, Thursday 27th February 2025

The Personal Finance Society Hants & Dorset, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Tyne Tees & Yorkshire Regional Committees in association with the Insurance Institutes of Bournemouth, Guildford, Newcastle, Southampton, Sussex and York have organised a ‘distance learning’ training day via an online and interactive conference video facility for those members who are studying for and taking the AF7 examination.

This will be an online distance learning event.

The cost of the day’s training will be £50 for Hants & Dorset, Surrey, Thames Valley Sussex, Tyne Tees & Yorkshire PFS members, £75 for all other PFS members and £100 for non-PFS members. There is a maximum of 16 attendees. If we are oversubscribed, you will be placed on a waiting list.

We reserve the right to cancel this event should there be fewer than 6 delegates attending. Should this occur a full refund or transfer to an alternative course will be offered and some supporting material, at no extra cost, will be sent to the enrolled delegates.

The day will commence at 0930 sharp and finish by 1630, with breaks timetabled for lunch etc throughout the day.

The course is recorded and a copy is sent out to all delegates.

The AF7 preparation day aims to increase your chances of passing the exam.

This will be a one-day event.

Learning objectives

By the end of the event delegates will able to:

  • understand the background to pension transfers both from money purchase and final salary arrangements

  • describe a DB scheme’s main features including the benefits paid at normal, early and late retirement, ill health pension and on death

  • describe the member options with an uncrystallised money purchase fund

  • understand the options available to someone who has left a DB scheme’s sponsoring employment

  • understand how a Cash Equivalent Transfer Value (CETV), is calculated, the assumptions behind the calculation and how changes in these will affect the CETV

  • understand the main principles in advising clients considering transferring their DB rights to flexible benefits

  • understand the factors that must be taken into account to ensure that advice is appropriate

  • Understand the factors in ensuring that income in drawdown will be sustainable

  • know the FCA’s current thinking on DB transfers and the compliance issues in giving advice on DB transfers
