Virtual Lloyds Tour
The presentation is a slide show with commentary, divided into 4 sections, with questions taken after the firs part and at the end
The first part explains how Lloyd’s operates today, who the underwriters and brokers are, and how they interrelate with each other. I also show past results, the clients who insure at Lloyd’s, and the Chain of Security.
The second part tells the history of Lloyd’s, starting with the coffee house, and explaining the Titanic slip. I move on to the regulation and the role of the Council.
The third part brings it all together, showing activity in the present building, at least before the lockdown, together with Lloyd’s Lab, the classes of business insured and the global business breakdown.
The fourth part shows slides of the artefacts we would normally show when touring the building, including the Lutine Bell, Loss Book, the Adam Room, the Old Library and the Nelson Collection.
Peter Fletcher Bio
My own background is that I worked in the Lloyd’s Market for 35 years, first as a Non-Marine broker, then as a Members’ Agent. I retired in 2013, and for the last seven years I have been the official Lloyd’s Tour Guide, giving lectures on the workings of the Market and conducting tours of the building. This came to a temporary end with the first lockdown on 19 March, but I am obviously hoping to resume this activity at some point in 2021. Meanwhile, I have introduced these virtual tours, which seem to be very popular.
