AF4 Investment Planning
This three-day course aims to significantly improve delegates' chances of passing their AF4 exam by developing an understanding of the key technical points that are likely to be tested. Each session takes place at K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley and opens for registration at 9.00am for a 9.30am start and ends at 4.45pm, providing six hours' CPD each day. 11 July, 5 September, 26 September The cost of this course is £165 for CII/PFS members (£225 for non-members) and includes all tuition, tea/coffee on arrival and during formal breaks and a buffet lunch. The pace of technological change in the insurance industry is at an unprecedented level, with an increasing number of complex and connected vehicles being launched into the UK market. Thatcham Research’s role, in this rapidly changing market, is to ensure that new technology is fully researched and understood by evaluating its potential impact for its Insurer Members. This talk will cover vehicle technologies that enable or are considered todays Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, how these are evolving into the Automated Driving space & the potential implications these may have on vehicle repair, vehicle security and for motor insurance. Roy Darch Biography As Insurance Services Development Manager, the key aspect of Roy’s role involves and engagement with member insurers and building on existing relationships as well as establishing new relationships with non-insurer members. Alongside this Roy is responsible for ensuring that Thatcham delivers value to its members through new and innovative products and services. Roy a background in financial services with over a decade of experience in the insurance industry having spent many of those years as a motor claims manager at a leading UK insurer.

The Insurance Act 2015 or some of its components; Presentation obligations, Clauses about risk Fraud Proportionate remedies The Enterprise Act and its remedy for late payment of an insurance claim. This came into force in May and is potentially quite important for how all parties act in the claims process as there has not previously been a remedy when the claims process is delayed. Interpretation of insurance contract terms An example-based talk about some of the surprising ways in which policy provisions have been interpreted by the courts, arguably against expectation. Can cover obligations to take reasonable care and how various warranties designed to exclude cover for hot work, burglary, fire etc. have been interpreted. Differences between conditions precedent and other terms Claims notification clauses The recent Macaferry case, whether condition precedent, what “immediately” and other time requirements mean, the consequences of late notification Overview of the legal developments in last 12 months A mixed collection of Enterprise Act and decisions like Versloot which moves forward the law on using a fraudulent device in a claim, Macaferry decision Fraud and fraudulent devices in a claim
