Visit to Fernbrook Bio

Visit to the anaerobic digestion food recycling plant of Fernbrook Bio Ltd

The Insurance Institute of Northampton collaborated with local business Fernbrook Bio Ltd to organise a visit to their food recycling anaerobic digestion plant at Rothwell, Northamptonshire. Fernbrook agreed that a party of 10 from our Institute could meet at their premises after work Wednesday 14 September for a narrated tour of their plant so as to gain an insight into how food waste is turned into heat, power and fertiliser. Kitted out with appropriate footwear and high viz jackets and surrounded throughout by the unique smell associated with this business, those attending had a most interesting and enlightening experience.

The visit was followed by an invitation from our President, Peter Robinson, to join him for a drink at a nearby pub where a lively discussion and debate ensued around the recycling industry and in particular the challenges that it can present to the insurance market from an insurance perspective. Given the success of the evening Northampton Insurance Institute plans to incorporate further visits to local industries into our annual programme of events.
