In this lecture, Richard will outline the common considerations in forensic flooding investigations. He will cover flooding from a range of sources including sewers, surface water, groundwater and rivers.

He will discuss typical causes, using case studies to highlight:

  • Causes / contributing factors that can give rise to a potential recovery;

  • Interested parties whose actions (or inaction) may have contributed to the flooding

Learning Objectives

At the end of this lecture, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand of the typical causes of flooding;

  • Identify flooding claims that have a potential for recovery;

  • Apply best practices when dealing with new flooding claims that have a potential for recovery;

  • Understand key considerations in a forensic flooding investigation.

Speaker Biography

Richard Keightley is an Associate at Hawkins, providing forensic investigation and root cause analysis for the insurance, legal and risk management sectors. Richard is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager and Chartered Environmentalist and has a background in flood risk engineering, hydrology and hydraulic modelling.
