Mini Master-Class: Data Protection and the Insurance Industry / Marine Claims
The Insurance Institute of Northern Ireland is happy to announce that the third event in their mini master-class series, organised by the young professionals committee, which will focus on Data Protection and Marine Claims.
Data Protection and the Insurance Industry
By attending this event delegates will be able to identify:
- The duties imposed regarding data
- The penalties which can befall those who breach data regulations
- Steps that can be put in place to mitigate a loss from a breach of data.
This part of the seminar will be delivered by James Ferguson, Solicitor Advocate. James studied Law & Economics at University of Ulster graduating in 1998. He then joined Ferguson & Co Solicitors to begin his apprenticeship and ultimately qualified as a Solicitor in Northern Ireland in 2000. Since then James has remained with Ferguson & Co working almost exclusively for Insurers dealing with Employers Liability, Public Liability, Motor, Professional Indemnity and long tail cases.
James qualified as a Solicitor in the Republic of Ireland in 2008 and now handles cross border jurisdictional issue disputes. He furthered his training and qualified as a Mediator in 2011. In 2015 he undertook a NITA approved course qualifying as a Solicitor Advocate meaning he can now personally contest actions at Court.
Marine Claims
By attending this event delegates will be able to identify:
- The basis of Marine, Marine Cargo & Marine transit insurance
- The primary differences between settling Marine claims opposed to Property & Casualty
- The most publicised Marine claims: what went right, what went wrong and how the claims were settled.
This part of the seminar will be delivered by Roy Cunningham. Originally from Glasgow, Roy has worked in the area of Marine Insurance for over 40 years holding positions with The Royal, Sun Alliance, The Insurance Corporation, Allianz and most recently Northern Marine Underwriters (NMU) for whom he opened a Belfast Office in 2010. NMU specialises in insurance solutions encompassing Cargo, Marine Equipment, Freight Liabilities, Engineering, Terrorism and Motorsport.
NMU is part of Lloyds syndicate 457 which started lifein 1977 and by 1990 had become known as the Watkins Syndicate.
