Mini Master-Class: Vicarious Liability / Fraudulent Claims
The Insurance Institute of Northern Ireland is happy to announce that the second event in their mini master-class series, organised by the young professionals committee, will focus on Vicarious Liability and Fraudulent Claims.
Vicarious Liability
By attending this event delegates will be able to identify:
- Common law doctrine of vicarious liability
- How recent court developments have developed the doctrine in the 21st Century and the implications
- The four recent Supreme Court (UK & ROI) judgements on vicarious liability
- The implications for employer’s liability claims moving forward
This part of the seminar will be delivered by Roisin Harper. Roisin is part of McKinty and Wright’s award-winning Defendant Litigation Team, listed in Chambers as one of the leading teams in Northern Ireland, ranked Band 1 for Personal Injury Defence work. Public liability, occupier’s liability and employer's liability claims are areas of interest for Roisin and she will be examining the impact of recent judgments from both the UK and Irish Supreme Courts in relation to employer’s liability claims.
Fraudulent Claims
By attending this event delegates will be able to identify:
- The steep rise in fraudulent claims
- What measures can be put in place to reduce them
- Details of insurance claims found to be fraudulent and how this was discovered.
This part of seminar will be delivered by William Wilson. William has worked in the insurance industry since leaving school in 1985. After spending 3 years in a major broking house and 5 years in the claims department of an Insurer, has worked in the Loss Adjusting industry for 24 years.
He attained the ACII qualification in 1993 and the ACILA qualification in 2001.William has responded to catastrophe surges in the UK and abroad, and has lead a large number of multimillion pound commercial property and BI claims in the UK and overseas.
