Norwich Insurance Institute 2024 Annual Dinner

On Thursday 10th November, the Insurance Institute of Norwich (IIN) hosted its Annual Dinner at the Assembly House, Norwich. Dinner tickets were sold out, and the evening was a great success, filled with networking, celebrating the achievements of newly-qualified members and fundraising for the Insurance Charities. The Insurance Charities is the UK and Ireland insurance industry’s dedicated charity, and provides vital support to both current and former insurance colleagues and their dependants, when they need it most. You can find out more about the Insurance Charities via their website: The charity for insurance industry employees - The Insurance Charities

Our President, Alycia Thomson, served her first two terms as President during the pandemic and the 2024 dinner represented her first, well deserved opportunity to host. The Top Table included distinguished guests: Kris Locker (IIN Deputy President), Christopher Shadforth (CII Director of Communications), Bob Walne (Chair of the Norfolk PFS Society), Debbie Bullock (Board Director & Trustee, The Insurance Charities), Jo Hocking (Chair of BIBA Anglia Region), Christopher Johnson (President of the Insurance Institute of Chelmsford & South Essex), Rachel Karn (Regional Compliance Business Partner at the Clear Group), Oliver Watson (President of the Insurance Institute of Ipswich, Suffolk & North Essex), Robert Weald (President of Insurance Institute of Peterborough) and Geoff Shuttleworth (Life Vice President at the Insurance Institute of Bedford & Milton Keynes).

The night started with speeches from Alycia Thomson, Bob Walne and Chris Shadforth with focus on some important themes including membership engagement, the value of qualifications and the evolution of the insurance industry. Debbie Bullock shared insights on the fantastic work the Insurance Charities do, and some examples of how help has been provided locally. After Dinner speaker, David Walters (Head of Financial Lines at PIB) reflected on changes in the industry over the course of his career, including gender equality, culture and technology.

The dinner was well-attended by Norwich & Norfolk employers, such as PIB, Howden, Marsh, Life Advice Norfolk, Alan Boswell Group, Towergate and Hugh J Boswell. We also welcomed 16 members who achieved a CII/PFS qualification during 2023, forming part of the IIN’s Celebrating Success initiative.

Through a raffle, a friendly game of ‘Heads & Tails’ and the generous donations of guests, a fantastic GBP1,281 was raised for the Insurance Charities on the night, and we thank everyone for showing their support for the great work this charity does.

Our gratitude extends to the evening’s sponsors: PIB, Employment Specialists, Howden, Marsh and Gordon Barber.

Special thanks goes to Amaia Robbins (Dinner Secretary) and the dinner committee for their support in arranging the event.

The Insurance Institute of Norwich hopes all attendees thoroughly enjoyed the event, and were delighted to welcome both new and familiar faces. We look forward to seeing you at future events soon.

Hot off the press we can announce next year’s dinner will be on Friday 10th October 2025, and we can’t wait to welcome you!
