YPG/IIN Mediation & Negoiation Workshop
Insurance Institute of Norwich Young Professionals
Mediation and Negotiation Workshop
Time: 5.00pm (for 5.30pm start) – 7.30pm
Date: 19th March 2019
Venue: Mills & Reeve LLP, 1 St James Court, Norwich, NR3 1RU
In everyday life, each of us are skilled negotiators, whether dealing with who will do the washing up, or asking for that pay rise. Many of us negotiate in a professional capacity, arranging deals or settling claims. For those involved in a claims handling role, this may even lead to formal negotiations such as a mediation.
This workshop, provided by senior mediator Martin Plowman of Mediation First, will begin with a brief overview of what the mediation process ordinarily involves and the role of the mediator. Drawing on his experience as a professional mediator, Martin will then take you through a mediation (volunteers required!) which will be followed by a discussion about the lessons learned for negotiation generally and for those attending mediations in particular.
This course is essential for anyone unfamiliar with the mediation process, but will also be of particular interest to anyone in a claims handling role, and indeed will be relevant for anyone interested in developing their negotiation skills.
Learning objectives:
- Gain an insight into what a mediation involves
- Develop an understanding of the theory of mediation
- Learn how to deploy negotiating skills in a mediation
Please note this workshop has been arranged by the young professionals group, however all members are welcome to attend.
Warming drinks and light refreshments will be available from 5.00pm
