‘Cyber’, and its component parts of information security and data protection, are topics of increasing concern for the insurance industry.

A variety of bottlenecks are constricting market growth. Brokers are struggling to engage clients on the risk; and contending with the resultant PI & E&O exposures. Insurers are creating wildly differing products under the same title of "cyber", and contending with aggregation and silent-cyber issues, and both groups with the potential for catastrophic loss.

The net result is that many businesses seeking cover and assurance are confused by the risk and available solutions.

This session presents a unique cross-section of cyber and its wider effects across the insurance and risk management industries. The session is built on the bespoke knowledge assembled by Berea, a company working with insurers, brokers, risk managers and small businesses, with the mission of “Making Cyber security Simple”.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this event, delegates will be able to identify:

  • an overview of cyber risks/security, and the exposures faced by businesses of all sizes and the steps they should take to protect themselves
  • the complexities and bottlenecks in the wider insurance industry that may affect the uptake of cyber insurance products
  • where distribution of cyber is hamstrung, and tactics for addressing these issues
  • an understanding of the UK Government Cyber Essentials scheme, the minimum benchmark for cyber security in an organisation, and its wider benefit to the insurance industry.
