Mere ownership of land fails as the defining principle determining what duties are owed to people when they come on to it. The all-embracing and sometimes confusing test is one based on the question of “control”. During the course of a lunchtime lecture Chris Gough will distil the basic duties owed by those “controlling” property, the beneficiaries to whom the duty is owed, and the defences that might be available to occupier claims as well as looking at some emerging risks in this area.
