Flood Forum Success
The event brought together a number of senior level professionals who discussed what can be done to minimise future economic and social harm caused by flooding whilst further improving resilience.
President of the institute Gerry James ACII JP Sales Director of Towergate Insurance opened up the proceedings before handing over to Graham Smart, McLarens MD for Europe who chaired the event and introduced the events four key speakers.
Mike Still, Chairman of BERG was the first to the presenter’s podium, giving delegates an overview of BERG; including how it came to be, the idea behind it, its aims and how it operates giving a great insight into what it feels like to be a victim of being flooded and its potential impact.
Brendan McCafferty, CEO, Flood RE was next to take the podium - informing delegates of Flood re: its aims and objectives plus their vision of the future.
Ian Ferguson, Property Claims Director, Aviva then took to the stage who spoke about how insurers work with people and businesses to get them back to normal as soon as possible following flooding.
Finally Terry Ahearn, CEO of SEPA gave an interesting update on changing weather patterns and how Flood Alerts work in practice plus what are the mechanics behind SEPA keeping the public abreast of threats.
The event was attended by over 120 delegates who travelled from across Scotland to attend the event. The Perth & Dundee council are already in talks to discuss the subject of their next forum event.
