Whiplash – Hit or Miss?
The Insurance Institute of Perth & Dundee recently ran a panel discussion that focussed on the subject of whiplash.
Whiplash is a neck injury caused by a sudden movement of the head and is the most common injury associated with road accidents. The increasing frequency and cost of whiplash claims is making insurers nervous and some are arguing that it is better to pay for the medical treatment of the condition rather than paying compensation.
Learning objectives:
By attending this event delegates were able to identify:
- The nature of injuries associated with whiplash
- The point of view from insurers on the current practice of handling whiplash claims
- The point of view from solicitors on the justification for paying financial compensation.

- Kismet Hossain-Ibrahim FRCS (SN) PhD, Consultant Neurosurgeon, who will be speaking about the nature of the injuries associated with whiplash.
- Ian Johnston from Aviva who will discuss how insurers are currently dealing with whiplash claims issue.
- John MacMillan a solictor from MacRoberts who will be arguing the case for paying financial compensation.
